Ontario announces hearings for Bill 140 Print E-mail
Sunday, 10 December 2006

In a press release to Canada Newswire, the Government of Ontario has announced that Bill 140 has passed second reading and is now in committee.  Accordingly, there will now be hearings across the province, although the locations have not yet been announced.

Bill 140 will have a significant impact on how nursing homes and long term care facilities are regulated.  Additionally, a bill of rights will be introduced for residents of these facilities which will protect them from abuse or neglect.

The proposed legislation will also introduce protections for whistleblowers and for those who report abuse or neglect, while also implementing unannounced inspections by government authorities.
