Ottawa caregiver charged with defrauding elderly woman Print E-mail
Sunday, 24 December 2006

A home care worker in Ottawa was recently charged with fraud after police confiscated Christmas gifts after executing a search warrant against her home.  The presents were paid for using the credit and debit cards of the 90-year old woman who was supposed to be in the woman's care.  Two others were also charged with various offenses.

The elderly woman's daughter notified police after the bank flagged many suspicious purchases made on her mother's credit card.  Police investigated and laid charges for use of stolen credit cards, impersonation, fraud and possession of property obtained by theft.

The caregiver charged was Sandra Shaw, 38.  Ms Shaw may have had other potential victims in her care.  Anyone with any information is asked to call the Ottawa Police Elder Abuse Unit at 613-1222, ext. 5650.
