According to a CBC News article, the Quebec Human Rights Commission
has ordered a health agency in the Beauce to pay $160,000 to residents
of long-term care facilities in the area who were victims of elder
abuse and neglect. This is a result of a four year investigation into
allegations that 13 seniors had been abused.
Of the 13 seniors, 8 have since died.
Quebec Health Minister Philippe Couillard responded to the report, saying elder care facilities have improved since, especially since surprise inspections were implemented. These inspections are aimed at gathering feedback from families about the quality of care in these facilities.
