Porches or Stairs

Front porches, back decks or any stairs should have railings and banisters.  Check all the banisters to make sure that they are not loose.

The stairs should be contrasting colours so that the person with AD can see where the steps are, how deep they are and how wide they are.

If there is a chance that the stairs can become slippery if it rains or snows, install rubber treads on the stairs.  These are readily available at most hardware stores.

Both indoor and outdoor stairs should have banisters on both sides and there should always be carpeting or rubber treads on indoor stairs.
